Pupils in Years 7, 8 & 9 rose to various music-, food- and geography-related challenges to celebrate European Day of Languages - with delicious German chocs on offer as prizes for the winning teams.
The sounds of Nena, Edith Piaf and Catatonia could be heard..., mouthwatering pictures of paella, sauerkraut, quiche lorraine, and calamares, amongst others, tantalized the tastebuds demanding identification and flags of European countries were to be drawn and their currencies and languages noted.
Thanks to 9D for helping to decorate the Library, and special thanks to Ms Johnstone and Ms Davies for your enthusiasm and for getting your pupils involved.
Thanks to all staff and pupils who proudly wore their 'Talk to Me' stickers throughout the day, nobly signing sheets and chatting to pupils in the language of their sticker. The prize for most signatures and most multilingual chatting went to Hywel in Year 8. Lunchtime music, flag and language challenges were won by 'Parle-nous' in Year 13 and 'Total Verrückt' in Year 8.
In appropriately named teams, pupils in Year 7 were keen to put
their developing independent learning skills into practice and compete
in a specially devised challenge with a European focus - with
three rounds dealing with music, food and geography. A fantastic effort
from all; special prizes and certificates are on their way to the
winning teams...
Staff and pupils wore 'Speak to Me' stickers in a whole
range of languages throughout the day, nobly signing sheets and talking
to pupils in different languages. It was good to hear so many people
having a go and trying out different languages. The prize for most
signatures and most multilingual chatting went, for the second year
running, to Jamie in Year 9, who was determined not to let his title
slip! Even Year 12 students practising their Italian for the Welsh
Baccalaureate couldn't quite reach the same number!
A multilingual fiesta at lunchtime included language taster sessions in Italian and German, as well as various foods from across Europe to sample and enjoy. Many thanks to the Modern Languages Department and to Mrs Hughes for all your help!
Something very special for next year is already being planned - we'll keep you posted!

This week's English and Welsh words are:
sustainability
Ffagl Olympaidd
Thanks to Mr S for this week's words!
Tell us what either or both words mean and you can choose a word for next week!

I pray no child of mine should ever descend into such a place as a Library. They are indeed most dangerous places and unfortunate is she or he who is lured into such a hellhole of enjoyment, stimulus, facts, passion and fun.
